After making it through the secret lair of the W Mavericks, X (or Zero) found the source of the calamity: the Neuron Devil. X recognized that this was the same robotic eye that was spying on him during his missions. The room was filled with industrial machinery. In the center of the mechanical eye’s blue lens was a pupil in the form of the white W that terrorized the world. A red mist shot out from the robot’s sides, and gradually solidified into a wall of red gelatinous mass that completely concealed it. Meanwhile, the machinery in the room started to operate. After a long battle with the mechanical eye, it finally gave out and collapsed on its side, echoing its cryptic final words, “A- a-activate… f-failsafe…ation-oper…master percent 80 complete body…W…auto…S-s-s-s-sigma…” Just before the light faded from the robotic eye, X realized something: what happens when you turn the letter W on its side?

Unlike the other members of the devil series, Neuron Devil’s entire concept is completely different. Not a weapon of destruction, but rather a weapon of creation. The core is used to send signals to all of the other W Mavericks, including mechanaloids and tools. By analyzing various reploids and mechanaloids, it has the ability to develop an understanding on how such machines are built. This data is stored within nanobots contained within a gelatinous mass it controls, effectively making it a “brain” like entity. In all irony, since this mass is used in combat, that means it uses its own brain as a shield. Like other members of the devil series, this machine can generate and control this gelatinous substance which is used mostly as a shield. However, most of its attacks revolve around the machinery it controls remotely. Like its predecessors, it can form its red goo into a humanoid form, but prefers using practical shapes over “looking cool.” The substance can also be attacked to make the core vulnerable, and this version of the yellow devil is an easier boss overall. While not in the lab, Neuron Devil scouts the world, looking for any data it can to analyze for new designs. Its motives are currently unknown, although it has an obvious connection to Sigma.

This was the earliest design I had in mind for the main villains of the W Maverick War. This thing is such a tool it doesn’t even have a gender. Much like the yellow devil, it serves as a midboss sort of character, and has little if any back-story behind it. I added the miscellaneous machinery to it in order to emphasis its purpose as a robot that builds other robots.

This guy was interesting to make. The gelatin was beyond easy, thanks to the fact that it’s… gelatin. The trippy hand was meant to be a reference to its lack of genuine shape. Neuron Devil isn’t solid, so why should the hand get special privileges? The shading was where it got fun. Not much else to say.
